We’ve made thankfulness a daily practice in our home as we close out our day with each family member sharing something they are thankful for. Sometimes it’s something exciting that’s happened that day and sometimes it’s simple gratefulness for the often-overlooked daily provisions. But one thing is steady: we’ve never run out of things to be thankful for.
Admittedly, in the hard, challenging times (which have been more prevalent this year, for certain!) we sometimes don’t “feel” like being thankful. It’s so easy to be distracted by the problems, the disappointments, the scary stuff that’s going on around us. But we’ve found that those are the EXACT moments we need thankfulness the most!
If you’re not already in the habit of daily thankfulness, I challenge you to give it a try. Take a piece of paper (or a journal or the Note feature on your smartphone) and start a list. Just list one thing you’re grateful for. Tomorrow, write another. And the next day add a third item. Number your list as you go along. As the list grows, your heart of thankfulness will follow suit.
Here’s mine for today: I’m thankful I have the opportunity to connect with my children while providing for my family. (And each of YOU contribute to making that happen, so….Thank You!)
Take care, stay safe, and keep pressing forward,
–Carrie & Crew
